Neilsen Ratings for Commercials - NY Times

Here’s a noteworthy article from the New York Times of particular interest for joint licensees.  It describes the June announcement from Neilsen that the organization would provide ratings for commercials…the article also describes the fallout from the announcement.  It is full of great stats on how many people with TIVO and other DVRs actually watch the ads on the programs they’ve recorded.

Local Revenue for Online Ads Poised for Growth & Air America’s Bankrupty Explained

Here are two interesting articles from Medialifemagazine.com to check out pertaining to underwriting/corporate support:

Local revenue for online advertising is poised for growth.  This is good news for public broadcasters who have online sponsorship programs in place.  Media planners report that the reason the web is so appealing for local advertisers right now is the ability to target.

Air America filed for bankruptcy last Friday.  Media experts attempt to explain why in this article. http://www.medialifemagazine.com/artman/publish/article_7929.asp

Is there anybody in there? Reaching Underwriting Staff

We’re doing a survey of Underwriting chiefs in the top 75 markets for a client. I’m still getting to know this community, so I’ve spent a fair amount of time looking for contact information on station websites.

It’s startling how hard it is to find many of you. The vast majority of the sites I looked at put names and contact information for underwriting reps many clicks deep on their sites. In many cases, there were no names or numbers, just “for more information, contact underwriting@wxyz.org.”

Is this the customer relations equivalent of “operators are standing by?” Shouldn’t it be easier for a prospective client to make a connection with a person?

Concerns about spam and staff time go without saying, but many stations could make it easier for underwriters (and listeners) to start a conversation.

What do my new media colleagues at DEI think of this? What about you? What stations make it easy to get in touch?
